The University of Duisburg-Essen is looking for the following person at the Duisburg campus in the Faculty of Physics, Department Experimental Physics, for collaboration in SFB/TRR 270 – Hysteresis Design of Magnetic Materials for Efficient Energy Conversion – HoMMage on research assistant (f/m/d)

(Pay category 13 TV-L)
Their main areas of responsibility:

The topic of the research activity is in the exciting and currently expanding field of research of so called magnetic MAX phases and has the aim to produce layers of novel magnets to and to measure their structural and magnetic properties. Within the scope of the SFB/TRR 270, thin films of these MAX phases consisting of 3 or 4 various elements, for example by means of pulsed laser ablation. Here, an understanding of the relationship between structure, chemical composition and magnetism on the nanoscale shall be gained. In addition to structural and chemical analysis using high-resolution X-ray and electron spectroscopic methods, especially methods of magnetic analysis are applied.

Within the scope of the activity the opportunity for further scientific qualification is offered.

Very good master’s degree in physics, materials science or nanoengineering.
Advanced knowledge in:
– Solid state physics (experiment)
– Coating techniques in ultra high vacuum
– Analysis of magnetic materials
Application knowledge in the field of nanomaterials
Manual skills and technical understanding
Interest in scientific qualification (doctorate)
Very good knowledge of German and/or English, written and spoken (English C1, German B2)
