Course Description
This course consists of three modules:
1st module Introduction to structural biology: The module begins with an introduction where the purpose and importance of structural biology in the progress of Biological Sciences is analyzed. The proposed methodology is then described, how to use the results with graphical representations and model manipulations.
2nd module: Biomaterials for tissue regeneration and tissue engineering applications: Emphasis is given on ceramics, polymers, composites, nanoparticles, implants and scaffolds for hard and soft tissue replacement and regeneration.
3rd module: Biosensors: Some basic concepts for biosensors (limit of detection LOD, limit of quantification LOQ, ROC curve), the different ways of biorecognition of detection target molecules (antibodies, aptamers, enzymes) and the physical and chemical methods used for detection will be presented: optical methods (absorption, fluorescence/luminescence, plasmon surface effect, SERS), mechanical and electrochemical methods, as well as nanopores.
